Kempton preview: Golden chance for Balding with Mr Quicksilver
Published:David Metcalf | December 9, 2015
Mr Quicksilver has some strong form to his name, so looks a worthy favourite to finally open his account in the 1m maiden which opens proceedings on this evening’s card at Kempton (16.05).
The Andrew Balding trained colt has proved costly to follow, but has run well to make the frame on seven of his eight starts.
They include a third to the now 99-rated Cymro at Chester and a cracking 1/2 length third to Koora at Doncaster.
Koora has gone on to land a Group 3 contest at Newbury an is now rated 107, and that form reads extremely well in the contest of this class 5 contest.
Although it is a slight worry that Mr Quicksilver constantly seems to find one or two too good for him, there is little doubt that he brings by far the best form into the race.
This is also a very weak contest for the grade, and it will be disappointing if the son of Dansili doesn’t take advantage of what looks a golden opportunity for him to secure a first success.
Cash in on Cee Jey
Trainer Jeremy Noseda does well with his runners at Kempton, and Cee Jey can provide him with another winner in the 7f nursery (18.10).
The Newmarket handler has a strike rate of 20 per cent at the venue in the past 12 months, and in Cee Jay has a lightly raced and promising colt who could have got in lightly on his handicap debut.
After finishing a promising fifth over 6f at the track on his debut, Cee Jay posted a really solid effort when keeping on well to finish a 2 3/4 length second of 14 to Fighting Temeraire at Windsor.
The winner is a well-regarded sort now rated 83, and that makes Cee Jay’s opening mark of 72 look very exploitable.
Although the selection was not at his best last time out when third at Doncaster, that run came on bottomless ground which didn’t seem to suit, so the switch back to the polytrack surface is likely to see Cee Jay in a far better light.
Another plus is that the stable is in good form, and from a good draw in stall one everything looks in place for a huge run.
