Journey worth taking at Curragh

Favourite to score in Pretty Polly Stakes

Sunday racing goes at Windsor, Uttoxeter, Cartmel and Curragh, but it’s the Irish action that gives punters a real interest, with no less than four group races on the day. The group one Pretty Polly Stakes headlines, and you can have your say on every contest at every meeting with us.

Coral’s team have run through the runners and riders, reporting back on our winner of the big one, while followers of our race-by-race selections will be delighted to see us take on the Curragh card. Pick out your favourites to build big price multiples.

Gosden mare a real classy operator

An 11-runner field has turned out to contest the prize won by Aidan O’Brien’s Minding 12 months ago, and the popular trainer goes looking to land a hat-trick, with Diamondsandrubies coming out on top in 2015. That ensures Pocketfullofdreams and Rain Goddess will be extremely popular in the betting, but we’re going to swerve the pair and take a shot on Journey.

Representing John Gosden, the classy five-year-old mare has already proven her worth over the one mile two furlongs trip, and has also shown she can more than hold her own in this sort of company, winning the group one British Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes at Ascot last year. Going off at a handy SP, she finished a convincing winner that day, trailing Speedy Boarding home by four lengths.

Aiming for four wins from five

The selection goes into the contest boasting some eye-catching recent results, winning three of her last four, with that Ascot success boosted by wins at Haydock in a group three over 1m 3f and Newmarket, both with plenty to spare. She was last seen ending midtable in the Coronation Cup, and it looked like Journey found her level there.

That effort at Epsom remains her only run of the year so far, but she will shape all the better for it, and we hold high hopes for a return to winning ways on Sunday. With both form and fitness onside, our NAP deserves her place at the head of the betting, and there’s every reason to get involved at Coral’s 2/1.
