Coral ambassador Joe Tizzard previews his runners at Cheltenham and Fontwell this weekend

Saturday

2.20 Cheltenham – Slate House

He did well at the back end of the last season. This is chucking him in at the deep end, but his owners are looking to have a nice day out at him. He has run well around Cheltenham in the past. If everything goes well for him, I would not rule him out finishing in the placings.

3.30 Cheltenham – Bourbali

He won four times last season, including twice at Plumpton to end the campaign. Unfortunately, he is paying the price for that success now. That said, he has a nice racing weight, and he has already had a run this season. It is a competitive race and there may be some younger horses who are on the upward curve, but this does look like the next step for our runner.

Sunday

12.30 Fontwell – Pedley Wood

We bought him at the sales. He is a nice sort who won an English point-to-point. We are on a learning curve with him. Everything he has done at home has been great, but obviously he now must show us what he can do on the course and then we will know where we are with him.

1.00 Fontwell – Buckhorn George

He had two goes over fences last season, and he was a little unlucky as it didn’t quite work out for him. He ran well at Fontwell back in February in a hurdles race. I think he is a well handicapped horse, and he might just need this first run of the season. However, it is not the strongest race in the world so it wouldn’t surprise me if he was in the mix at the finish.

2.05 Fontwell – Premiumaccess

He ran at Fontwell last time and all he seemed to do was keep on galloping. He is out of the handicap here but Harry Kimber claims 5lb off his back which will help. This race is going to be a war of attrition and our horse stays well so he should be doing his best work at the end when many have cried enough.
