With the dust settling on Cheltenham Festival last week, Joe Tizzard looks forward to his four runners on Saturday at Newbury, previewing them in his latest Coral blog.

2.05 – Alexei

He won two novice races earlier this season and then he was well beaten in a Listed race at Exeter last time. I do think the handicapper has been a bit harsh, giving him a mark of 130. I guess we will find out at Newbury on his handicap debut. I think he will love the ground there and he is a nice horse who in on the upgrade. I am just a bit nervous about this opening mark.

2.40 – Scarface

He loves it around Newbury, and he never runs a bad race. He is as very consistent horse and I’d be disappointed if he did not finish in the frame on ground that is ideal for him.

3.15 – Sunset Marquesa

This looks like a real hot race, as it always is. She won nicely around Ffos Las last time, and this race has always been the plan since the turn of the year. I think the step up in distance will help, and hopefully, she is off a workable mark. You can put a line through her run at this course earlier this season as she came back wrong in that race. We will see how good she is in this contest.

5.35 – River Corner

He won nicely over this C&D last time but that came on ‘Soft’ ground. Rain will need for fall for him to get his ideal conditions. If he gets the rain overnight, he will run, and he will do so with blinkers on. It was a good victory earlier this month, so hopefully, he should be full of confidence. However, if the ground continues to dry out, we may have to pull him out on the morning of the race.
