Haydock 3.15 – Eldorado Allen & The Widdow Maker

Eldorado Allen ran in the Topham [at Aintree] a couple of weeks ago, and he was running a nice race until making a mistake late on. He’s come out of that race really well, and he’s been dropped a couple of pounds, so even though he carries top weight here, the handicapper is slowly giving him a chance, and one of these days he will land one of these races.

The Widdow Maker was off for a long time, over 700 days, and has run well since, getting his head in front at Exeter last time. He needs a career best performance to figure here, but it’s a £100,000 race and he deserves to take his chance. Of the pair, I would have to favour Eldorado Allen though.

Racing Super Series

Newton Abbot 4.19 – Scarface

After a long dry spell, the rain finally came, turning the ground at Newton Abbot soft, and with more rain forecast, hopefully there won’t be any issues with the meeting going ahead. Scarface is such a consistent horse, he doesn’t know how to run a bad race, and he won’t mind soft ground, so I can see him being in the shake-up here for sure.

Newton Abbot 5.29 – Striking A Pose

Striking A Pose is another who won’t mind softer ground, and this longer trip should suit him. He seems to save his best form for Exeter, but there’s no reason he can’t go well here, and with the horses still running well, I hope he can be in the mix here.
