Coral ambassador Joe Tizzard previews his stable’s runners on the final day of the Cheltenham Festival & Cheltenham betting, including Lostintranslation and Native River in the Gold Cup.
We’ve won the Albert Bartlett with a big priced runner before [Kilbricken Storm in 2018] and this year’s renewal looks wide open again, so that has definitely encouraged us to run Oscar Elite here.
Some of the novice races this week have had small fields, but that’s not the case here, as I don’t think there’s a standout contender to scare the opposition away.
Our fellow deserves his place here on his performances in the first half of the season, and the jockeys that have ridden him have all said that he’d like better ground, which he’ll get here, so that might bring out some more improvement.
He’s a big price but we’re hoping lightning can strike twice in this race!
It’s great to have two runners in the WellChild Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Native River has been brilliant throughout his career, and he’s in cracking form at home. After his Cotswold Chase victory he’s the highest rated staying chaser in the country, and there’s nothing to suggest he’s not the force he once was.
Softer ground would help him as it just slows the others down and he keeps galloping, but it’s still three and quarter miles around Cheltenham and that always takes a bit of getting. He’s been first, third and fourth in three Gold Cups and fully deserves his place in the race once again.
Our other runner, Lostintranslation, will be suited by the drying ground. It was a difficult first half of the season with him, when things clearly didn’t go to plan, but in his last run at Newbury he travelled and jumped much better, and actually just blew up on us. He hasn’t missed a beat at home since then, he’s in the best form we’ve had him all year.
I keep looking back at last year’s race and seeing how well he travelled into the race, and he jumped the last upsides the winner, and yes he has got to bounce back to that form, but we couldn’t be happier with him at home, and a repeat of last year would put him right in the mix.
