Joe Tizzard: “We think there is more to come from War Lord”

Coral ambassador Joe Tizzard discusses the chances of his five runners at Exeter on Friday
It’s been another good week, with several more winners, and as the season steps up a gear now, it’s great to see the string in such good form.
One horse who didn’t win, but still pleased us, was Eldorado Allen in the Charlie Hall (pictured below). It was great to see him run all the way through the line which meant his stamina held up well, as that opens up options for us going forward.
He’s in the Betfair Chase at Haydock, and the King George as well, and time may tell that giving three pounds to Bravemansgame at Wetherby was a pretty decent performance.
This Haldon Gold Cup card has moved slightly in the calendar but it remains a big day for us, and we start with a lovely four-year-old prospect.
King Of Lombardy ran well in his Bumper at Newton Abbot, the penny really dropped that day, and he finished the race really strongly, which is what you want to see.
This is his first time over hurdles but he’s been schooling well and he has strengthened up nicely over the summer. Lallyagg looks the one to beat but I’ll be disappointed if this fellow doesn’t show a bit.
Shirocco’s Dream seems really well at home, she started last season strongly but her form just tailed off slightly in the second half.
She has won around Exeter before so we know the track suits her, I think this is a lovely race to start her off again and I’m expecting her to be competitive.
We run two in the staying handicap chase. Sizing Cusimano has been struggling in recent runs, he was hiked up in the weights when he won at Newton Abbot first time up this season and it’s taken its toll.
Dad [Colin Tizzard] owns half of him and he’ll be a lovely ride for Fred [Gingell] to learn plenty on, so he’ll keep the ride for the next few runs, and if they can’t get his head in front again, they should at least go the right way.
Killer Kane is having his first start of the season, he was progressive throughout last season and finished third in a good race at Aintree to end the campaign.
He will appreciate the good ground here, this looks to be an excellent starting point for him and will take us nicely to a race at Newbury in three weeks’ time that we have in mind for him.
We run War Lord in the feature Haldon Gold Cup, a race we won with Eldorado Allen last year. He wouldn’t want it any quicker than the good ground that they are advertising but there has been rain so I’m sure it will be fine for him.
Now rated 149, this has been the plan for him all summer, he was hugely progressive last year and this will tell us where we are with him, although we do think there is more to come from him.
