Saturday – Haydock 3.15 – Le Ligerien

With the rain still not letting up in much of the country, we’re facing testing ground once again, and Le Ligerien is a horse who would definitely prefer better ground, but this is a decent prize that has been the target all season, so we’ve got to take our chance.  He won the Kempton leg of this series in November, and Haydock as a track will suit him well.

As you’d expect for the prize money, this is a competitive line up, and this horse has won enough times in the last year for the handicapper to have him about right, so we don’t come here with plenty in hand or anything, but he’ll run his race despite the going as he’s such a consistent horse.

Haydock 3.50 – No Hubs No Hoobs

No Hubs No Hoobs has had a brilliant season, winning his last two, both at Wincanton, with the blinkers on.  This is another decent prize, and the horse deserves to have a go at it.  He won’t mind the heavy going, I do think he’s improved for wearing the blinkers, and although the handicapper usually catches up with them after a couple of wins, I hope there might be a bit more to come from him.

Sunday – Plumpton 3.05 – Defi Nonantais

With the going at Ffos Las already heavy at declaration stage on Friday, we’re not running any at the Welsh track on Sunday, but we do take four to Plumpton for their excellent card.  We’ve tweaked this horse’s wind since his last run, and having got him after he finished third in his point-to-point, we’ve always liked him and I’d hope he could be competitive off this current mark.  We’ll certainly ride him positively and on decent ground we’ll see how we go.

Plumpton 3.40 – Rose Of Arcadia

This mare has been fantastic for us, and having won well at Sandown last time, and finished third in the Sussex National here, she deserves to have a go at this nice pot.  Fred [Gingell] gets on well with her and I fully expect her to run another strong race.

Plumpton 4.50 – I Shut That D’Or

He picked up a knock when he ran third at Fontwell back in October, so had a short break, and then didn’t enjoy the heavy ground at Chepstow last time.  He’s another who’s had his wind tweaked, and with Fred taking five pounds off him, back on better ground I can see him going close, if not here, then soon.  We’ll keep going with him into the summer.

Plumpton 5.25 – Ilovethenightlife

This horse got stuck in the mud at Haydock last time, so we’re bringing her back here as she won here the time before.  This going at Plumpton is about as good as we can get anywhere right now, so it makes sense to run her, and then the plan is a nice mares’ race at Ayr during their big Coral Scottish National meeting next month.
