2018 World Cup places up for grabs

Joe Hart’s odds of going to the World Cup with England have been cut after a surge of support in the betting.

The Manchester City stopper is now 4/6 from 10/11 to make Gareth Southgate’s 23-man-squad for the tournament in Russia.

Hart has been the Three Lions’ first-choice at the last three major tournaments but has seen his place come under threat after being phased out at Manchester City.

Loan spells at Torino and West Ham United have helped the 30-year-old’s chances. Yet his place at the London Stadium has also been under scrutiny after a series of poor performances.

He is now behind Jordan Pickford (1/25) and Jack Butland (1/16) in the England pecking order.

Nick Pope has been moved out to 6/5 from even-money, while fellow Burney ‘keeper Tom Heaton could also mount a challenge.

“It looks like whilst Hart may lose the number one berth after a troubled few seasons that Southgate will retain his experience in the squad for the tournament in Russia,” said Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead.
