Jim Crowley: This filly is the reason I’m at Salisbury not York

Jockey and Coral ambassador Jim Crowley discusses the chances of his three rides at Salisbury on Thursday.

Salisbury 2.35 – Christian David

Rather than staying at York for day two of the Dante meeting, I’m off to Salisbury for three rides, although the main reason I’m heading south is coming up later! I start the day on Christian David, a son of Profitable making his debut in this two-year-old contest.

He’s trained by Richard Hannon, who also runs Mr Baloo here, but Richard likes to introduce good ones at this local track, and they always run on their merits, so I don’t think we need to read too much into jockey bookings, with Dane [O’Neill] on Mr Baloo, who is making his second start.

I haven’t sat on this fellow, so don’t know too much about him, but as I say I’m sure he’ll be fit and ready, and we’ll find out plenty more about him here.

Salisbury 3.10 – Tennessee Dream

I’ve not ridden Tennessee Dream before, but she’s a lovely filly who has won three times for Charlie Hills. Her last eight runs have all been on the all-weather, but she has run on turf at the start of the career, so there shouldn’t be any issues about a return to grass.

It doesn’t look the strongest handicap, and off this mark I hope she can bounce back from a slightly disappointing run last time, prior to that she’d always been consistent, and with Charlie’s horses running well, she’d have a chance at her best.

Salisbury 4.20 – Mantoog

The reason I’m at Salisbury rather than York is this filly. I wasn’t on her when she made her only start as a two-year-old, she ran into a nice sort at Kempton that day [Inner Space], and a few winners have come out of the race, so it was a promising debut.

She’s a Shadwell homebred filly, so there’s always an extra connection with a horse like this, and she’s done well over the winter so we hope she’s a filly with a nice future. Trainer Owen Burrows had a three-year-old filly win for the team at Beverley on Tuesday, so he’s going nicely, and while she’s up against some nice types here – some with experience, some without – I’m hopeful she can make the trip worthwhile.
