Jim Crowley: Military Order is the horse I’d want to be riding
Published:Jockey and Coral ambassador Jim Crowley discusses his ride at Epsom, plus the Derby.
She is going to have to take a step forward on her last start, but I don’t think she was at her best that day. A few of John and Thady Gosden’s runners were needing the run in the spring and they are in great form now, so that is a good sign.
The filly won three races last season, including a Listed contest at Yarmouth. The Gosden team would not be running her in a race like this if they did not feel she was up to it. She has been working nicely at home and I am hopeful of a big run.
I don’t think it is a strong Derby this year. Auguste Rodin has to take a massive step forward from the Guineas. I am not saying he won’t, but he was very disappointing at Newmarket. He is favourite, but I am not sure he warrants that position.
Military Order is the horse I’d want to be riding in the race. I was impressed with what he did in the Lingfield Derby Trial. That was over 1m 4f, and he got better as that race progressed.
Digging deep 👊
A brave, brave performance from Military Order who battles hard to win the Fitzdares Lingfield Derby Trial 👏pic.twitter.com/qUknKxKM2e

Sir Michael Stoute’s runner, Passenger, is interesting. I thought he ran a great race in the Dante, where he was a little unlucky. He is unexposed, as this will be just his third run. He has been supplemented for the race, so his connections must be confident.
Dubai Mile ran a good race in the Guineas, where he was fifth. I think he will run a big race at a price. He could improve again over this distance. A lot of the horses in this race don’t stay, so I’d be looking for those who will appreciate the trip.
