Jamie Spencer says Rays The Money will go close today

I ride Shamshon in the first at 2.00. I like this horse. He’ll improve a lot for the six furlongs. I rode him last week at Ascot and he was off his feet the whole way, never travelling, but he finished well to be fourth. This trip will be a big help to him and he goes there with a really decent each way chance. It’s a very open race. I rode Dougan two starts back and I think he’s probably the big danger. I think the draw is basically pace related, so I’m happy with his post.

In the Steward’s Cup I was meant to ride a different horse for Richard Fahey but it isn’t running now so I’m riding Withernsea. He looks an outsider on form. Dandy Nicholls has a good hold  on the race with Orion’s Bow and Kimberella and I think the winner will come from those two.

I ride a really nice horse called Ray’s The Money in the maiden at 4.20.  He was second at Ascot first time out. He ran very well. I galloped him last week and he has come on really well since Ascot. Obviously it will be a warm race. Ryan rides the William Haggas horse Lockheed who will be the favourite but I think my horse is a good bit better than his Ascot run, and that should see him there or thereabouts.

In the 4.55 I ride Monteverdi who was a non runner in the International last week. He disappointed at Sandown and in the Britannia, but his two first starts of the year were good. He’s got cheek pieces on for the first time and in an open race he’s got an each way chance. If he runs anywhere near to the form of his York run he can go close in this.

Minding is the star turn today and is a steering job in the Nassau Stakes. She’s so adaptable, can handle any trip, pace, ground, seems to have it all. It doesn’t matter what you put in front of her, she beats it all. It looks a strong crop of three year olds, but I think she could beat the colts, that’s how good I think she is.
