Jamie Spencer looking forward to Frankel filly at Catterick

I’m going up to Catterick to ride a Frankel filly called Queen Kindly in the 1.50pm. She’s out of a mare called Lady of The Desert who won the Princess Margaret, the Lowther, and was second in the Haydock Sprint and second in the Abbaye. She’s a very well-bred two year old who has been ready to go for the last couple of weeks. It just so happens that she has to run here because we are getting close to Royal Ascot. Richard Fahey likes her.

Cunco, Frankel’s first two year old to run, was very impressive but he started over six furlongs, whereas this filly is starting over five. It will hopefully show a different dimension to Frankel as a sire. It’s always exciting riding nicely bred newcomers. I’ve only done the Catterick beat a couple of times in the last five years but my Epsom rides fell apart a bit when all the rain came, so I ended up changing track completely on Thursday morning and heading to Catterick then Doncaster.

I then drive to Doncaster where I start with West Coast Flyer in the 6.10pm.  He won on the all-weather, and is a huge, big horse. He wasn’t very expensive but he’s a gorgeous horse and he’s really grown in to himself. He’s the sort of horse that I can see improving and improving over longer distances. It’s his first start, and he’s a little bit innocent still, so I could see him still being a bit green. But I’d be very surprised if his mark of 75 is where he’ll end up at the end of the season.

In the 6.40pm I ride Wavelet for David Simcock. I won on her on the all-weather then I finished second on her. She was a little bit disappointing on her first start on turf but hopefully with that behind her she can improve and put on a good show.

I ride Wannabe Friends for Luca Cumani in the 7.10pm. He’s stepping back from a mile and a quarter to a mile. He’s got a very good pedigree but we’ll just have to see. It’s his third run so whatever happens he’ll get a rating for handicaps. If he happens to win we’ll just then take it as it comes.

I won on Majestic Hero the run before last and then he went to Pontefract and just got beat a short head. He’s running off the same mark as last time and he should have a great chance. Doncaster should suit and the draw looks fine as there’s pace in stalls 1 and 2. I’ll be bang there and take it from there.

In the Investec Oaks I just think Minding will win. I think she’s head and shoulders above everything else in the field. It’s just a case of Ryan conserving as much of her speed as possible. At the end of the day we saw Legatissimo beaten in last year’s Oaks, although I didn’t think she was a glutton for a mile and a half. Ten furlongs was her ideal trip. They can get beat but I think Minding will be too good, particularly with this being such a small field.
