Jamie Spencer expects Carnachy to relish extra Park Hill distance

I start off with Island Vision in the first at Doncaster at 1.55. She was a little disappointing last time at Newcastle. She had looked an improving filly up until that run, and I don’t know whether it was the Tapeta surface or something else, but she didn’t run to the level we thought she’d run to. So it’s a back to the drawing board type of race. She’s been dropped a couple of pounds which all helps.

I then ride Carnachy in the Park Hill Stakes at 3.05. It’s a big step up in distance having run over a mile and a quarter in a Group One last time. We always felt she’d stay well. Horses by Mastercraftsmen generally stay well. It’s a warm enough race with Abingdon and Simple Verse in there, but I thought she had a good each way chance. She wasn’t beaten very far in France last time and that was a Group One. This drop in grade and up in distance will suit, and the ground will be absolutely perfect for her. The ground rode just the slow side of good yesterday but it should be good by today. She’s got a definite chance and has a nice draw to boot.

In the valuable sales race at 3.40 I ride Firefright for Jeremy Noseda. He’s run a couple of nice races in maidens. I’m drawn in the right place next to Stormy Clouds, and Mubtasim is close by, so i’m drawn around the right horses. He’s stepping back in trip but they go a good pace in this race and there’s huge prize money up for grabs. I won the race last year and it would be nice to win it again, but I’m on a bit of an outsider.

Bermondsey is my ride in the 4.15 for Luca Cumani. He won nicely at Sandown and then went to Ascot where he over-raced the whole way and never relaxed. He went back to Sandown the other day on softish ground where he didn’t get the rub of the green so I thought he was better than the bare result. He’s up one pound for that but it shouldn’t stop him. He’s got a nice draw and the more conventional track at Doncaster will suit him well.

I ride Never Surrender for Charlie Hills in the maiden at 4.50. Aidan O’Brien’s horse The Anvil looks the one for this. Never Surrender has shown promise in his two starts but will need to step up alot to be winning this. We’ll give it a go.
