ITV Racing Preview: Who will be first past the post in the Coral-Eclipse Stakes?

We look over the best of Sunday’s live races

The ITV Racing cameras head to Haydock and the Coral-Eclipse meeting at Sandown on Sunday and we pick out some of the top runners in the day’s biggest races.

After an Epsom epic on Saturday, it’s time for the Coral-Eclipse, where Enable returns to action for the first time since being runner-up in last year’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

13:50 Sandown – The Coral Charge

A competitive field will contest this Group 3 race, but Liberty Beach could be one to watch, after a strong showing in the King’s Stand at Royal Ascot, where she finished third.

Dakota Gold struggled at Doncaster last month, finishing fifth out of six as the 7/4 favourite, but perhaps needed that run to be primed for this race.

Lazuli has been tipped for big things and knows the track well, winning here last month by three and a half lengths.

14:25 Sandown – The Coral Henry II Stakes

Winner of the 2019 Dubai Gold Cup, Cross Counter has not won since and was held to third in last months Gold Cup at Ascot, losing to Stradivarius. But this two-mile trip could suit the stayer.

Spanish Mission may not have performed at Meydan earlier this year, but had shown form in 2019, winning the Bahrain Trophy ahead of Nayef Road.

15:35 Sandown – Coral Eclipse

There’s a stacked line-up for the day’s showpiece race, with Enable well-fancied at the top of the betting. John Gosden’s star hasn’t raced since being denied a third Arc de Triomphe win in October of last year. She’ll likely take another tilt at the Arc in October, but will want to start that by winning the Coral-Eclipse once more.

This time out, she faces stiff competition in the form of Coronation Cup winner Ghaiyyath, who has shown excellent form this season, winning the Dubai Millenium at Meydan in Feb, before beating 2019 Derby winner Anthony Van Dyke at Newmarket last month.

Another threat could come from Japan who tends to improve as the season goes on and will certainly look to come forward from last month’s fourth-placed finish in the Prince of Wales at Ascot.
