IPA World Pool Championships: Seeds enter tournament on Friday

Published:

All 20 tables were in pretty much constant action all day at the Bradford Hotel as the IPA World Championships moved forward to the last 64 in the main draw.

Elsewhere, the last 32 stage of the Seniors and the same for the doubles have been reached, with the Ladies event starting on Friday evening..

Naturally, there have been a few upsets along the way (though to be fair, not very many), with the cream rising to the top but, then again, we have yet to see the Professionals in action.

Pool’s top players join the draw on Friday and start their march towards the crown every 8-ball potter so wants to win. You can follow all the action via the IPA Pool’s live streaming service.

Looking at the draw as it unfolded, an alluring tie is Simon Ward v Arfan Dad at 9.30am, which should be well worth getting out of bed for.

That should be followed at about midday with Ronan McCarthy v Ross Fernie with both clashes looking mouthwatering beforehand.

Overall, everything is going well, the players and friends are making the most of the opportunities to place their bets with Coral (fun or serious).

The facilities and brand new pool tables are delighting the players as are the surroundings, while the TV table is the talk of the town and is attracting a lot of interest from both the players and spectators too with the odd local popping in to see what it is all about and leaving suitably impressed.

Despite all the smiles among the players, you could still sense a bubbling undercurrent of competitiveness as those left in begin to realise that maybe, just maybe, this is their year.

Jack Whelan, 9/1 with Coral to successfully defend the IPA World Championship, went all the way from the Amateur ranks in 2015, so who is to say that lightning cannot strike twice?
