Hull’s new star Robertson a target for Arsenal and Man Utd

Premier League top 10 chances Hull City (13/2 with Coral) may have to fight off the likes of English giants Arsenal and Manchester United for their star left back Andrew Robertson, 20, in January.

Young Scotland international Robertson has been a revelation since joining the KC Stadium last summer, despite his new club lagging down in 16th so far, and has been used in roles all down the left for the Tigers.

It has been miraculous but short journey for Robertson to get to this stage, after beginning his first-team career for Scottish Third Division side Queen’s Park as an amateur. His stand-out performances there, still as a teenager, led to him being sold to Premiership outfit Dundee United last season.

Making a move to a bigger club like Arsenal or Man Utd should not phase Robertson, as he is used to playing at home in a large stadium. Queen’s Park played their games at Scotland’s national ground Hampden Park, which holds 52k fans, although their average attendance is around 750.

Louis van Gaal could be particularly interested in signing Robertson, with his current left back Luke Shaw continuously struggling with fitness and back-ups Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind out with long term injuries.

The Gunners, meanwhile, are also very thin in defence, and have Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal in that area, but the duo have failed to really impress.

Robertson was signed by Hull for only £2.85m, but can still reportedly be snapped up for a relatively cheap price, despite his importance to the club.

Tigers boss Steve Bruce said of the player: “There has already been one or two with phone calls asking ‘to keep me informed’. That’s always the first stage.

“I had it with [Wilson] Palacios when I was at Wigan [Athletic] and then [Antonio] Valencia when he went off to Man Utd. And if this kid keeps performing the way he is then it might become inevitable.

“I spoke to Gordon [Strachan] about him in the summer. He threw him in against Nigeria for his first cap. He took to it like a duck to water, and he has done exactly the same when offered the challenge with us.”

If Robertson is sold, then Hull could potentially struggle further, and they are now 3/1 chances to get relegated at the end of the season.
