Hull derby and Leeds-Wigan Roses clash on Magic Weekend day one

Published:

Super League takes centre stage as the rugby league family prepares to pack into St James’ Park for two days of non-stop Magic Weekend action.

As a result, Coral bring you the first of a two-part preview, featuring the three games on each of the two days, in order of kick-off times, with fantastic odds available.

Salford v Widnes
The Vikings come into this game on the back of a solid 30-18 victory over Wakefield last time out, and Denis Betts’ side will be looking to follow that up with a victory on Tyneside.

They are odds-on at 8/11 for the win, and are in a fantastic run of form of late, after also beating Leeds Rhinos prior to win in West Yorkshire. Stefan Marsh has four tries in his last two games and after a hat-trick last time out, his odds of 11/10 to score anytime are respectable.

It was Rhys Hanbury who crossed first last time out, and the player is 8/1 to do so again. Salford are on a five game losing streak, and may see this occasion as a great chance to record a win on neutral territory, in what will be cup-like atmosphere.

Last time out, the Red Devils lost 34-18 to Warrington, however, they put up a good fight in the first half, with the score standing at 16-12 in the Wolves’ favour at the interval. Cory Paterson scored first last time out, and is a decent 13/8 chance in the anytime market.

Hull FC v Hull KR
Arguably two of the most inconsistent teams in Super League, which is reflected with both clubs on 12 points each, this is usually one of the most fiercely contested derbies in the sport.

Earlier in the season, however, it was the Robins who took bragging rights at the KC Stadium, with chief string-puller Terry Campese running the show and getting on the scoresheet, along with Kieran Dixon and Shaun Lunt.

With the latter unavailable, Campese and Dixon are 11/4 and 8/13 respectively in the anytime market. Leon Pryce scored the solitary try for Lee Radford’s side, though he also breached the in-goal area in the 17-10 defeat to St Helens last time out, so comes highly recommended at 11/4 to do so again anytime.

Leeds Rhinos v Wigan Warriors
The evening kick-off sees a clash at the top of the table, as two well-backed clubs resume their long rivalry. The Rhinos currently sit top of the Super League by three points and are odds-on at 8/13 to claim bragging rights.

After a brief hiccup, Brian McDermott’s men got back to winning ways last time out, seeing off Hull KR 36-16 with winger Ryan Hall getting on the scoresheet twice. He will no doubt by a vital component against the Warriors and is 8/13 in the anytime market.

Skipper Kevin Sinfield, meanwhile, also crossed and is available at 7/2 to score again anytime and it is his experienced head that will be crucial to any victory.

For the Cherry and Whites, coach Shaun Wane will be expecting a response, after his side succumbed to a heavy 58-16 defeat in the south of France last time out, however, they also lost earlier in the season at Headingley in a 26-14 scoreline.

Perhaps surprisingly, it was Wigan who drew first blood against Catalans, with winger Josh Charnley scoring, and the England international is 7/1 to repeat that against the Rhinos. Warriors winger Joe Burgess, meanwhile, extended his lead at the top of the Super League try-scorer charts to 15 for the season, and is odds-on at 8/11 to cross anytime.
