Trader’s Tips: Who to watch in Friday’s Irish racing
Betting tips and preview from our Head of Racing Trading, James Knight
There’s no horse racing in the UK now until at least the end of April, but we’ve still got Irish racing to enjoy. And we’ve got a competitive card at Dundalk to look forward to on Friday.
Trainer to watch
There is no doubt Joseph O’Brien has caught the eye among the training ranks at Dundalk this season. He’s racked up 14 wins from 63 runners at Dundalk in 2020.
He has five runners on Friday’s card, with particular interest in Juliet Rose in the 15:00. She showed real progress on her previous start here when she was run down in the closing stages. This race looks like an ideal opportunity to shed her maiden tag,
Horse to watch
Aerclub will have a two-pronged attack from the young O’Brien brothers to contend with in the 14:00 – Joseph runs Line Judge and Donnacha runs Flower Garland against him.
Aerclub impressed over course and distance on his debut and he could secure another win for his trainer Henry de Bromhead. De Bromhead is better known as a National Hunt trainer, and he’s coming off the back of Cheltenham Festival glory last week, where he enjoyed success with Put The Kettle On in the Arkle and Honeysuckle in the Mares’ Hurdle.
Jockeys to watch
The Dundalk charts see Declan McDonagh (eight wins from 38 rides) and Ronan Whelan (eight wins from 41 rides) at the summit this year. Both are in action on Friday. Watch out for their mounts!
McDonagh – 14:00 Line Judge, 15:00 Juliet Rose
Whelan – 14:00 Strip Light, 15:30, Global Pass, 16:00 Gougane Barra, 17:00 Lazy Susan.
