With the 2023 Cheltenham Festival about to begin, Coral’s parent company, Entain, has issued a list of the top horse races for betting in 2022 that highlight the huge appeal of the four-day meeting to punters, and the significance of the week to both the betting and racing industries.

Most notably, taking online and shop turnover into account, all 28 races staged at the Cheltenham Festival last year appear in the top 35 betting races of 2022.

Six of the seven races staged on the Friday feature in the 11 top horse races for betting last year, including the St James’s Place Hunters’ Chase.

Coral’s David Stevens said: “The turnover figures for last year prove beyond doubt that the Cheltenham Festival is the biggest, most important week of the year for bookmakers and their customers, and well deserving of the attention on it for months leading up to it.

“Betting turnover on Gold Cup day steps up to even greater levels compared to the first three days of the Festival, with six of the seven races on Friday in the top 11 betting races of the year.

“This is a sporting and betting event that builds to a crescendo and ends on a high with a massive final day of betting that can leave us celebrating or counting the cost, but either way, looking forward to doing it all again in 12 months’ time.”

Constitution Hill is 1/3 favourite with Coral for Tuesday’s Champion Hurdle, while Facile Vega is 15/8 market leader for the opening Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.

The firm cannot split 13/8 joint favourites, El Fabiolo and Jonbon, in the Sporting Life Arkle betting.
