Today’s Sports Schedule: Tuesday 17th March
The pick of today’s sporting action
With the ever-increasing safety measures throughout the world of sport to control the spread of the coronavirus, we’ve seen many of the biggest sports events already cancelled or postponed.
After April’s Grand National at Aintree was officially cancelled, the Premier League suspended, the Six Nations postponed and in golf, the US Masters suspended too, the sports community are helping to prevent the spread of the virus.
There are still some sports events taking place as normal, or behind closed doors, across the globe. We look at the best sports left on offer today…
Horse Racing
Today will see the last horse racing meets in the UK until at least the end of April. The initial plan was to hold meets behind closed doors, but the British Horseracing Authority has now suspended racing entirely. There will still be International Racing, for the time being.
There’s action from four race meets today. There are two meets from Ireland coming from Down Royal and Wexford, with action on English soil coming from Wetherby and Taunton.
Down Royal gets underway at 13:50, with seven races. Wetherby also hosts seven races, with the first getting started at 14:00. Wexford racing begins at 14:05 with seven on the card, before Taunton rounds things off with six races starting at 14:15.
Greyhounds
There’s plenty of action from across the country at the greyhound tracks, with 11 meetings from the likes of Monmore, Crayford, Hove and Nottingham.
The action gets started just after 11:00 at Crayford and will run throughout the day with the last race getting underway at 21:34 at Sheffield.
Football
There’s one match from Turkey in the Super Lig. Goztepe sit in eighth place ahead of kick-off, and they host Rizespor who sit in the relegation places in 16th.
Both sides come into the game in poor form, with Goztepe picking up one win in five, with Rizespor winless in that time. The game starts at 17:00 from the Gürsel Aksel Stadium.
Turkish Basketball

With the NBA shutdown for the season, our attention turns to the Turkish Basketball leagues where the action continues. Second-place Anadolu Efes look to return to the top of the table against strugglers Bursaspor. They’re odds-on at 1/25 to win tonight.
There’s action from the second tier too, with four fixtures to look over. Fethiye Belediye take on Merkezefendi Belediyesi in what could be the pick of the bunch. The home side are 13/20 favourites to win, with the travellers 11/10 to leave with the win.
What else is on?
We’ve got some eSports to look forward to as well. The ESL Pro League continues, with the world’s best players competing against one another in Counter Strike: Global Offensive.
There’s Ice Hockey action too from the Russian and Belarussian leagues. If that doesn’t take your fancy, we’ve got Volleyball from the Russian Vyssaya Liga A or Turkish 1.Lig too.
