Royal Ascot betting offers: Moore backed to foil Frankie fans

| 19.06.2023

Ryan Moore has been well backed to be this week’s leading jockey, according to Coral’s latest Royal Ascot betting offers.

Moore is the 1/2 favourite to ride the most winners this week, although 7/2 chance Frankie Dettori is still the man the bookies fear at the Berkshire track.

“As recently as 2019, when he rode the first four winners on Gold Cup day, Dettori has shown he has the power to have the bookies running scared when Ascot’s big meetings come around, and his mounts are sure to be popular as he lines up for his final Royal meeting,” said Coral’s David Stevens.

“Our best hope of avoiding a Frankie hammering this week could actually be Moore, who has been very well backed to be crowned top rider and could deny his great rival the perfect Royal finale.”

Moore’s main trainer, Aidan O’Brien, is 11/10 favourite to be leading handler, ahead of John and Thady Gosden at 7/4.

Modern Games and Inspiral are Coral’s market leaders for Tuesday’s Queen Anne Stakes, while Chaldean and Paddington head the betting for the St James’s Palace Stakes.

“The betting for both the Queen Anne Stakes and the St James’s Palace Stakes suggests we should be in for two thrilling Group Ones over a mile on day one of this year’s Royal meeting,” added Stevens.

“We can’t split Godolphin’s Modern Games and Dettori’s mount Inspiral in the opening Queen Anne, nor can we separate the two Guineas winning colts at the head of our St James’s Palace market.”

Elsewhere, Highfield Princess is favourite for the King’s Stand Stakes, while River Tiber is a well-backed market leader for the Coventry Stakes.

Coral are offering some enhanced ITV doubles on day one of Royal Ascot, with Dettori 17/2 to score on both Inspiral and Chaldean.

Moore can be backed at 8/1 to oblige on River Tiber and Paddington, while it is 11/1 for William Buick to strike with Modern Games and Coventry contender Asadna.

Buick said of Modern Games: “His record is very good and he won the Lockinge well last time, so I’m looking forward to riding him again.

“It would be nearly a rerun of the Lockinge without Inspiral, who is a good filly. As any Queen Anne should be, it will be tough to win.”

Although better known for his Cheltenham exploits, Willie Mullins holds leading claims in both the 20-runner Ascot Stakes and the Copper Horse Stakes via Bring On The Night and Vauban, with the latter one of a maximum field of 16.

Coral customers can get an enhanced treble of 25/1 for Inspiral, Bring On The Night and Vauban all to win.
