Coral ambassador Joe Tizzard gives us a lowdown on the Team Tizzard weekend runners, including The Big Breakaway in the Coral Trophy at Kempton.

Team Tizzard are targeting the boosted prizemoney at Kempton on Saturday, where they look to win the feature for the third time since 2016 with The Big Breakaway. On Sunday they have two runners at Fontwell and we have the lowdown on their chances here.

Saturday

Kempton 3.37 – The Big Breakaway

The Big Breakaway is going to have a great chance in the Coral Trophy. He fell at the last fence on his opening run of the season at Newton Abbot, which has turned out to be a great effort, as he was trying to give Bravemansgame 12lb. It then just did not happen for him at Sandown when behind Chantry House.

He is a horse we have held in high regard for some time and we believe he can be competitive off this mark. Ever since the increase in prize for the Coral Trophy was announced, this has been the target for him. We gave him a prep run over hurdles at Newbury last time and he has had some intense schooling at home.

We know he will enjoy this course as he finished second behind Shan Blue in the Grade One Kauto Star Novices’ Chase on his first season over fences.

Although there are only 14 runners in this race, it is a very competitive field, but if our horse gets back on track, he has as good of a chance as any of these horses.

Sunday

Fontwell 3.50 – Buckhorn George

He is coming back from a wind-op. Unfortunately, he just lost his way in recent times, but he will probably need this run. Hopefully this will be a step in the right direction for him.

Fontwell 4.50 – I Shut That D’Or

He is a nice horse we bought at the Doncaster sales and we have only run one of the four-year-olds so far. This horse is not long behind her in his work, but we don’t have a great record in bumpers, as we don’t overwork them at home. He is a sharp type and hopefully he can run well.

Cheltenham Festival is less than three weeks away

We had a couple of good winners at Newbury last weekend and a couple of seconds at Ascot. It is great to be in this type of form at this stage of the season.

Cheltenham comes around so fast. We have targets for all our horses at the meeting, which is exciting. It is just a case of getting them there in one piece now.
