Coral ambassador Joe Tizzard previews the stable’s Saturday runners at Ascot races

Ahead of one of the stable’s stars, Lostintranslation, reappearing at Ascot races tomorrow, assistant trainer Joe Tizzard has confirmed he will not be taking over the licence from his father Colin until the end of this current season.

Speaking exclusively to stable sponsor Coral, Joe outlined the reasons for the handover being delayed until next year:

“In terms of how we run the yard, it will make no difference to how we do things whether it’s my name on the licence, or dad’s, and we’d never really discussed a formal time for the handover, it was just something that came up during lockdown, and it’s not really gone away since, even though as far as we’re concerned it’s not a big deal at all.

“I’ve done all my trainer’s modules now, but the application can take six-eight weeks to process, so that would have taken us through to the new year, and we just didn’t see any point in starting again from nought then.

“In terms of winners and so on, so it was an easy decision to just say we’ll change things over at the end of this season, and start next season from zero like everyone else.

“But as I say, even when we do change the names over, it won’t affect how we operate one bit, we’ve always worked as a team, not just dad and I, but everyone here.

“This season has gone great for us so far, the horses have been flying, and we’ll just be looking to keep that going.”

Grade One winner Lostintranslation is in fantastic form

Team Tizzard Saturday runners

Ascot 12.20 – The Strap Man

The Strap Man has been off for a long time [951 days] so we hope the ground is OK for him here, I’m sure it will be.  He’s a lovely big horse, and while this is nothing more than a starting point for him, I do think he’ll be capable of winning races in the future.

Ascot 2.05 – Lostintranslation

“This is the right race to be running him in on his comeback, he looks fantastic, he’s been schooling really well at home, and we’ve taken him away for a racecourse gallop, so in terms of doing what we can, we couldn’t be happier, but he has now got to show it on the track.

“We gave him a hobday operation in the summer, so we’ve done what we could with him on that score too.

“He’s up against his old novice chase rival, Defi Du Seuil, here, and it would be great if both could bounce back to form here, it would be some sight to see them jump the last upsides each other, and may the best horse win!

“We absolutely still have 100% belief in this fellow, when you see him schooling like he has been, taking off outside the wing of the fence and flying over it, it’s very exciting, but as I say, we now have to see him do that on the track.”

Ascot 3.50 – Scarface

Scarface runs in the Lostintranslation colours, so it could be a big day for the owners.  He ran in a bumper at Ffos Las, so he’s sharpened up for that run, and I’d expect him to improve from there, which could well give him an each-way chance here.
