Joe Tizzard: “Elegant Escape can run a big race”
Coral ambassador Joe Tizzard gives us a lowdown on the Team Tizzard weekend runners.
Saturday
Taunton 12.58 – West Orchard and Champs Hill
West Orchard is a big baby of a horse who we are just going steady with but he ran well at Ascot just before Christmas.
This will be another step on the learning curve for him and I think Taunton will be a course he will enjoy. We think once he has a handicap mark, he can start being competitive.
Champs Hill disappointed us in his bumper where he came back wrong. We think he is much better than that and he is a chaser for the future.
Reserve Tank is back over hurdles and he is very much a spring horse as he loves the ground then. We will use this a springboard, but he seems well at home, and he won’t mind the ground and the track.
He has taken a couple of runs to get himself fit as he was off for over a year and this doesn’t look a great race on paper, as it is a small field.
Elegant Escape has an entry in the Grand National and that will probably be the plan at the back end of the season. I will be disappointed if he doesn’t run a big race here.
Sunday
This horse has been brilliant over fences and he finished second in a Grade One contest last time. He won’t mind the ground at Lingfield.
This will be competitive, but it looks a great opportunity for him to add another chase success.
We bought this horse as we were going to go point-to-pointing, but he can’t do that as he is a Graded winner over the past few seasons.
This is a great chance for young Freddie Gingell to have a spin on him, as there are only a few runners in the race.
The form of his Sandown run has turned out good as some winners have come out of it. This is a good little pot, and I don’t think he will be too far away.
