Jim Crowley: “Alflaila could get the day off to the perfect start”
Coral ambassador Jim Crowley discusses his three rides on the final day of the Ebor Festival at York
I begin the final day of the Ebor meeting on Alflaila, a horse I really like.
We were second to Mighty Ulysses two runs ago, and take him on again here, but since then we’ve come out and won a nice race at Pontefract.
Alflaila (7-2) shows a beguiling turn of foot to come from last to first in the Listed @SkyBet @YorkshireRacing Summer Festival Pomfret Stakes @ponteraces@ojburrows74 | @ShadwellRacing | @JimCrowley1978 pic.twitter.com/iMf8yB0E2e

We’re drawn next to him here and while we don’t know how much Mighty Ulysses will improve for that win, I know my fellow has.
That gives me hope we could reverse the form here and get the day off to the best possible start in conditions that should my horse perfectly.
Jumby makes a quick reappearance having won the Hungerford at Newbury last weekend and while this is a competitive heat, there isn’t a standout runner we should be scared of.
We’re drawn in stall six, which means we’ve got the right horses around us, and providing this doesn’t come too quickly for him, I can see him running another big race.
This is an exciting ride to pick up for owner JP McManus and trainer Joseph O’Brien.
Benaud won a small race at Bellewstown in June and I assume this has been the target ever since.
We’re drawn in 18, which on paper isn’t ideal, but I won the race a few years ago from the widest drawer of all in 21 so it can be done.
York has a nice long back straight and home straight so there’s plenty of time for me to get a good position and whilst this is a typically wide open looking Ebor, he could run a big race for shrewd connections.
