Jockey and Coral ambassador Jim Crowley looks ahead to the 2023 Guineas Festival at Newmarket and discusses the chances of his one ride on Friday.

I love this meeting at Newmarket, and we have some nice horses running over the three days. I have a quiet Friday as there are not too many spares knocking around, but I have some excellent rides on Saturday and Sunday, including in the 2000 Guineas and 1000 Guineas, which you can read about in my weekend blog.

Friday

1.50 – Mutasaabeq

He was due to run in this race at Sandown last week, but that meeting got abandoned. The form book says he has work to do with Light Infantry and Native Trail, as they are rated 120 and 119 respectively. He is also wrong at the weights with those two runners, and he has a 3lb penalty, however, he likes Newmarket, as he showed when he won the Joel Stakes there last year.

In a small field like this, it could end up being tactical. He likes to get on the front end of the field, and I do think he will run a big race. We are up against it with Light Infantry and Native Trail, but if we get first run on them, he is good enough to take advantage.
