ITV Racing Preview: Can Fivethousandtoone defy the odds in Mill Reef Stakes?
We take a look at the best of Saturday’s races
The ITV cameras are back on the road tomorrow and this time they’re capturing the best of the action from Newbury and Ayr.
We’ve got eight exciting races to look forward to, including a Group 2 and three Group 3 contests.
And ahead of the action, we’ve picked out the key runners and riders to keep an eye on.
Newbury
13:40 The Dubai International Airport World Trophy Stakes (Group 3)
14:15 The Dubai Duty Free Handicap Stakes
14:50 The Dubai Duty Free Legacy Cup Stakes (Group 3)
15:25 The Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes (Group 2)
Ayr
13:55 The Jordan Electrics Doonside Cup Stakes
14:30 The QTS Ayr Silver Cup Handicap Stakes
15:05 The Scotty Brand Firth of Clyde Fillies’ Stakes (Group 3)
15:40 The QTS Ayr Gold Cup Handicap Stakes
13:40 Newbury
Equilateral has struggled recently but should pick up under Hollie Doyle, who is in excellent form. The five-year-old will want to get back to the form that produced a career best in the King’s Stand at Ascot.
Competition will be strong in the shape of Lazuli, who comfortably took a Listed event at Sandown in June. He’s underperformed slightly in the two runs since but could recover here.
Elsewhere, Wise Words could rediscover her 2019 performances that produced three wins. She came fourth in a 5f Listed race at Doncaster 10 days ago.
15:05 Ayr
Umm Kulthum looks the one to beat after following up a debut win with a third-place finish in the Lowther Stakes at York.
One to watch could be Scarlet Bear, who has good credentials despite not yet tasting victory. The two-year-old finished third in the Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes at Salisbury and could step up here.
Meanwhile, Illykato was a place behind Scarlet Bear at Salisbury and will look to improve here.
15:25 Newbury
Fivethousandtoone has enjoyed a promising start to his career, following up a second-place finish on his debut at Windsor with a resounding victory at Newcastle just over two weeks ago. He’s certainly one to watch.
But Rhythm Master will be a strong contender. P. J. McDonald’s ride impressed on debut at Haydock before finishing third in Group 1 Prix Morny at Deauville last month.
Another one in the mix could be Bahrain Pride, who edged Fivethousandtoone on debut. He stepped up in class to claim his second win in as many races in a Listed event at Ripon.
