Coral Scottish Grand National takes place on 17 April at Ayr

Irish trained horses dominate the betting for the Coral Scottish Grand National next month, with Galvin and Escaria Ten 8-1 joint favourites.

The last Irish trained winner of the Coral Scottish Grand National was Huntsman in 1869 ridden by Larry Hyland. However, following a Cheltenham Festival dominated by Irish trained horses, we rate the chances of the first Irish winner of the Scottish National for 152 years at just a 4/1.

“It is quite remarkable that 152 years has passed since the last Irish trained winner of the Coral Scottish Grand National, but if ever there was year for the Irish to end that long losing streak it feels like this could be the year,” said Simon Clare, Coral spokesman.

Coral has sponsored the Scottish Grand National for 15 years, but this year will increase its stake in the meeting by taking on the sponsorship of the Coral Scottish Champion Hurdle too.
