Horse Racing Trader’s Tips: Will Rogers Downs – Tuesday 28th April
Our trader Johnathan Priddey previews Tuesday’s racing action
The Spring Meet at Will Rogers Downs continues on Tuesday, with a bumper 10-race card to look forward to.
And our expert has taken a look at the best picks ahead of an exciting evening of racing.
The feature race of the day from the Tulsa track comes at 23:15, with a decent stakes prize. Eight notably nippy sprinters will take to the field, with Teri Luneack’s local hero Welder expected to be the overwhelming favourite.
Having earned over $973,000 during his career, the Oklahoma-bred grey has more winnings than the rest of the field combined. With 21 wins from 32 starts, Welder is almost unstoppable over six furlongs in Oklahoma, having won Champion Sprinter, Champion Older Male and Champion Oklahoma-bred honours in 2019.
He also smashed Remington Park’s long-standing track record in the David M. Vance Stakes last year. Tuesday will see Welder return after a four month break, which could be an advantage to his rivals. He’s not won first time out in either of the last two seasons and there’s a strong field to contend with.
Habitual front-runner Shannon C could take Welder’s scalp. With four wins from 12 starts, Scott Young’s charge has a good strike rate and also has the advantage of form after enjoying a nice blowout second over five furlongs at Will Rogers Downs three weeks ago.
