Who is our trader backing in Thursday’s racing?

There’s still time for one more South African card before thecountry goes into lockdown to help contain the coronavirus pandemic.

Vaal hosts eight races card on Thursday and our racing trader Mark Underhill has given us his verdict…

Leading Jockeys

Warren Kennedy is having a great season. He leads the nationaljockey’s championship and he’s ridden 39 winners at Vaal this season, more thanany other jockey.

S’manga Khumalo has the second-most winners at Vaal this season (29).He rode a treble on his last appearance here.

The pair both look set to have strong books of rides on Thursday. Kennedy is partnered with maiden favourite Abdul, the shortest-priced runner on the card, at 13.10.

Leading Trainer

Sean Tarry has 50 Grade 1 wins to his name and he’s trainedmore winners at Vaal than any of his peer this seaso. He’s sent out 36 winners,giving him a strike rate of just over 14%.

He’s got two strong favourites in action here: Zuluonmystoep (11.15) and Siren Of Greece (12.30).

Horse To Watch

Mike de Kock is well known to anyone with an interestin racing in Britain or Dubai.

He looks to have a leading contender in the mile handicap at 14.55 with Akwaan. Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum’s three-year-old beat a couple of subsequent winners when breaking his maiden at this venue last month.

As a result, he may have been assigned a workablemark for his handicap debut here.
