Previews for Wednesday’s Stateside racing
There’s more US racing to get stuck into on Wednesday,with meets at Tampa Bay Downs, Fonner Park and Will Rodgers Downs.
Before it all gets started, our trader Joe Kyne has cast hiseye over the cards…
Tampa Bay Downs
We’ve got an eight-race card to look forward to inFlorida.
Top jocks Samy Camacho and Antonio Gallardo areboth back in action. You can’t split the rivals in the race for theChampionship title – they’ve ridden 171 winners between them so far.
Camacho comes into this in red-hot form, though his best ride might not come until the last race at 21:00 with newcomer Gaelic Gold.
Trainer Christophe Clement has a great track recordwith debutants starting off over one mile or further. He’s also averaging a 41%strike-rate with all his runners this season.
It’s worth watching the Ian Hemingway-trained Fledermaus closely in the first (17.30) too. He’s the son of Treasure Beach and has recorded two wins over this course and distances in three outings, including last time out when he romped home by six and a quarter lengths.
There’ll be fierce competition, but regular jocketWilmer Garcia knows how to get the best out of his mount and he may well bestriding clear at the finish.
Fonner Park
Fonner Park veteran Armando Martinez is involved inevery race on the card, including two rides for his wife Kelli.
The leading jockey at Fonner didn’t have his bestnight on Monday, but he’ll be confident about his chances here.
In contrast to Martinez, his title rival JakeOlesiak seems to have the golden touch at the moment.
After a double on Monday evening, he has seven rides here, including Ye Be Judged (22.00) and Wild World (22.27), both for trainer Marissa Black.
His partnership with Black has worked well for bothin the past and some US punters will no doubt be backing them for more success.
Another runner worth mentioning, potentially at ahuge price is Hyperbolizer. It would be no exaggeration to say thatthe form of his last race has worked out pretty well. Three of the sevenrunners that day won on their next start.
He was well beaten that day, but he has won overthe course and distance twice (and finished second twice) from just sixstarts.
Will Rogers Downs
There might be more valuable races on Wednesday, but the 22.15 at Oklahoma’s premier track should be the race to watch.
The five-and-a-half-furlong sprint on the dirt JoseSilva Jr’s Trapalanda. The trainer has an outstanding record withhorses coming off the back of a win.
As is often the case with sprinters, the six-year-oldjust seems to get better with age. He recorded a comfortable victory on hisprevious start at Turf Paradise, winning by over four and a half lengths.
It doesn’t like it’ll be smooth sailing for the Silva inmate this time though. Ed’s Rocket comes into this race off the back of three consecutive wins in a row.
William Morey doesn’t have too many runners but his places his charges with real precision and this looks to be another fantastic opportunity for his gelding to be first past the post. He’s set to be sent off favourite after those previous three runs.
Don’t count out Imma Wild Bling under Floyd Wethey Jr either. Owner James Pratt has already won twice in 2020 with this son of Too Much Bling, including last time out when he romped home by a wide margin. We could be in for a very exciting race.
