Odds and preview ahead of the 10-race card

Racing continues across the Channel on Wednesday, with Chantilly topping the bill with a 10-race card.

The highlight of the day is the Group 3 Prix Texanita (13.12), which is restricted to three-year-olds.  This sprint prize tends to produce classy young speedsters, with 2014 and 2015 winners Rangali and Goken going on to hit the places at Group 1 level.

Although it’s been a while since the emergence of that duo, the current sprint scene across the continent is ripe for an exciting shooter to emerge at the top.

Can Graffard go one better?

As it’s early in the season and we’re still finding our bearings, it makes sense to look at the trainers who have made a strong start since returning to action.

Francis-Henri Graffard didn’t have any winners at Paris-Longchamp or Toulouse on Monday, but he rattled the crossbar with all four of his runners finishing second.

Graffard had also produced an astonishing 10 winners from his last 15 runners before French racing stopped in March. Taking that into account, you’d expect his Prix Texanita hope Wooded to be in very good shape.

This son of Wooton Bassett looked tall and weak and raced a little too keenly at times last year, but he still placed twice at Group 3 level. The older, stronger and more streetwise Wooded could deliver under Pierre-Charles Boudot here.

Another strong showing from Pia Brandt?

Pia Brandt also carried strong pre-lockdown form into Paris-Longchamp, with Miss Extra winning a three-year-old handicap on Monday.

She has six horses on the card at Chantilly, including Twelve Bros (10.30). She steps out of handicap company into a warm conditions race. Having won at Saint-Cloud in March, her fitness could help her close the gap on more accomplished rivals.

Brandt also has two runners in the 14:22, with Maxime Guyon aboard Vautrin and Theo Bachelot on Shams Brazileiro, who has a 2-2 record under the Swede.
