Glorious Goodwood Day Two Preview: Can Siskin maintain his unbeaten record in the Sussex Stakes?

We look ahead to Wednesday’s biggest races at Goodwood
The Sussex Stakes takes centre-stage on the second day of Glorious Goodwood, with the likes of Siskin, Kameko and Circus Maximus chasing a purse of £1 million.
There are seven races to look forward to in total, including another Group renewal in the Molecomb Stakes.
Before it gets underway, we’ve looked at runners and riders in three of the highlights of Wednesday’s card.

ITV’s live coverage starts here, with a 16-strong field offering plenty of choice. True Destiny will be looking to come top of the pile this time around, having finished third last year. He’s consistently hit the frame lately, having finished inside the top three in each of his last nine runs.
Summer Moon takes a step down in grade here, having put in a sorry performance at Sandown last time out. If he recaptures the form that saw him finish third in the Ascot Stakes, he could be one to watch.
Couer De Lion comes into this having won the aforementioned Ascot Stakes with a sensational run. He’ll be hoping to take the rise in weight in his stride to deliver back-to-back wins.
After three second-placed finishes to date, Significantly could take the next step here. He’s impressed on each of his runs so far and racing downhill on Goodwood’s fast track should suit him.
Michael O’Callaghan’s Steel Bull is stepping up in class just a week after his victorious debut at Naas. He looked comfortable during that run and it’ll be interesting to see how he fares here.
Chief Little Hawk will also be looking to build on his early promise, having disappointed in his recent performances. Five furlongs could be the ideal distance, with trainer Aiden O’Brien admitting they may have been too hasty in entering him in Royal Ascot’s Windsor Castle Stakes.
We’ve got a stacked field here, but can anyone beat Siskin? There were questions over whether he could stay a mile ahead of the Irish 2,000 Guineas, but he answered them emphatically with his winning run. Unbeaten in five, his turn of foot could see him extend that record here.
He’ll come under threat from another Classics winner in Kameko, who triumphed in the English 2,000 Guineas. He drops back in trip after finishing fourth over a mile-and-a-half in the Derby. The Andrew Balding-trained three-year-old has won both of his previous two runs over a mile.
Our ambassador Jim Crowley is aboard Mohaather, who romped to victory in the Summer Mile at Ascot, while two-time Royal Ascot winner Circus Maximus also offers real promise.
