Fancy Blue favourite to win Irish Oaks

Three-year-old filly 5/2 favourite in Love’s absence

With Love running in the Yorkshire Oaks over the Irish Oaks, Fancy Blue has been placed as the 5/2 favourite to win at the Curragh on Saturday.

The three-year-old filly has had a more than respectable season so far, being beaten by Peaceful by 2l at the Curragh in January, before just edging out Alpine Star at Chantilly in the Prix de Diane Longines.

With the season’s standout filly Love missing, Fancy Blue could enhance her reputation even further with a win in the fillies’ Classic.

She’ll face tough competition over the 1m 4f Curragh turf, with Peaceful coming in just behind as the 3/1 second favourite to win the Irish Oaks.

The betting for the Classic is wide open heading into Saturday’s race, with Cayenne Pepper coming in as a 10/3 chance to win.

Coral’s David Stevens said: “With the season’s standout three-year-old filly, Love, heading to the Yorkshire Oaks rather than the Curragh this weekend, the market for the Irish Oaks is much more open than it would have been with Love in the field, with the betting headed by another Classic winner in Fancy Blue.”
