Now 8/1 favourite at Newbury after Topofthegame setback

Ahead of the 2020 Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury, Copperhead has been placed as the new 8/1 favourite.

Topofthegame had previously been the frontrunner but has been replaced by the six-year-old Colin Tizzard-trained gelding after being ruled out for the season.

The Condition and Aye Right are now joint second favourites at 10/1, ahead of Imperial aura and Vinndication who are 12/1 to claim victory.

Coral’s David Stevens said: “It’s desperately unlucky for connections that Topofthegame will miss another season on the track, and he would have been clear favourite for a winning return in the Ladbrokes Trophy, a position now held by Copperhead.”

Elsewhere, Saint Sonnet heads the betting for Saturday’s Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham as the 4/1 favourite, ahead of Simply The Betts at 9/2 and Mister Fisher at 6/1.

“Although Saint Sonnet has only had the two starts for trainer Paul Nicholls, he ran an eye-catching race at a big price in Grade 1 company at last season’s Festival, and narrowly shades favouritism ahead of Simply The Betts, himself a two-time course winner over fences,” added Stevens.
