Biggest ever weekend of flat racing set to be a hit with punters

| 02.07.2020

The Oaks, the Derby and the Coral-Eclipse all take place

This weekend’s unprecedented programme of top-class flat racing promises to be a huge hit with punters.

The Investec Derby and Investec Oaks take place on Saturday, with the Coral-Eclipse, Prix du Jockey Club and Prix de Diane being staged a day later.

Both Epsom Classics and the Sandown Group 1 were among our top eight betting races in 2019 and we could be set for a repeat this year.

“The Investec Derby is consistently the biggest betting race of the Flat season, third only to the Grand National and Cheltenham Gold Cup overall, while both the Investec Oaks and Coral-Eclipse were comfortably in the top ten last year,” said Coral’s David Stevens.

“So to have all three races, plus two further Classics from France alongside a host of other quality action, taking place across one weekend for the first time ever, with considerable ITV coverage on both days, is a major bonus for racing fans in this unusual season. There’s no doubt this biggest ever weekend of flat racing will be a huge hit with punters.”

English King is 11/4 favourite with our traders for the Derby, with Mogul, the chosen mount of Ryan Moore, 11/2 (from 7/1). Meanwhile, Moore’s mount Love is 11/10 favourite for the Oaks, ahead of Frankly Darling at 15/8.

However it is Frankie Dettori, who rides both English King and Frankly Darling, and who will also be on board Enable, the hot even-money favourite for Sunday’s Coral-Eclipse, the bookies are most wary of.

“He may be nearly 50 but Frankie Dettori is riding better than ever and no jockey has a bigger following among punters, as we saw again when he rode three winners on the final day of last month’s Royal Ascot,” added Stevens.

“With great chances in all three big races, this could be another weekend to remember for his fans.”
