Yarmouth tips: Cat Silver and Shawami handicapped to strike
Published:Cat Silver looks pure gold on handicap debut
Trainer Sir Michael Stoute does tremendously well with his runners at Yarmouth, and Cat Silver looks to hold leading claims of providing him with another winner at the seaside venue in the 1m 2f handicap there today (16.40).
The Newmarket handler has an overall strike rate of just under 25 per cent at the track and, in Cat Silver, has a gelding who has shaped with plenty of promise in three runs.
In the second of those, Cat Silver finished a 3/4 length runner-up to Bluebeard in a 1m contest at Kempton in a race which has worked out well.
The third home Murad Khan, who finished 1 1/4 lengths behind the selection, has since landed a hat-trick to be rated 99 and the fifth, seventh and eighth home have all gone on to taste success.
Promising return to action after lay-off
It gives the form a strong look and suggests that the assessor may have taken a chance in allotting Cat Silver an opening handicap mark of just 76.
The three-year-old also comes into the race on the back of a highly promising third in a 1m contest at Chelmsford following 330 days on the sidelines.
Cat Silver is sure to strip much fitter for that outing and looks the type who should have plenty more to offer now stepped up in trip.
Shawami weighted to cash-in on class drop
In the 7f nursery earlier on the card (16.10), Shawami can take advantage of a drop in class to open her account.
The Mick Channon trained filly has only had three starts and shaped really well on the second of those when a nine length runner-up to the very smart Dabyah in a class 2 contest at Newbury.
Although no match for the facile winner, Shawami stuck to the task well without being unduly knocked about and Dabyah has since gone on to finish third in a Group 1 at Chantilly.
The third home Nancy Heart has also since run well to finish fourth of 20 in a competitive maiden at York, and Desert Water who finished fourth was rated 80 going into the race after winning on debut.
That is useful form and makes Shawami look potentially thrown-in at the weights off a lowly opening handicap mark of just 63, especially now dropped down into class 5 company.
