Dubawi Fifty poised to open account in Newcastle tips
Dubawi Fifty shaped really well when runner-up last time out and can go one better to open his account in the 2m handicap on today’s card at Newcastle (15.20).
The gelding has shown progressive form in three quick runs since joining trainer Karen McClintock, and posted a career-best effort over 1m 4f at the track earlier in the month when beaten 1 3/4 lengths by Ajman Prince in a competitive 13-runner class 4 contest.
After being held-up and forced to race wide, Dubawi Fifty made good headway two from home and stayed on strongly to be gaining all the way to the line.
The winner is a bit of a course specialist who had won his previous start in good style and has since gone on to finish an unlucky in-running second, and the third home The Resdev Way went into the contest seeking a hat-trick of successes.
It gives the form a very solid look in relation to this lower grade class 5 affair and makes a 2lb rise in the weights for Dubawi Fifty look on the lenient side.
The selection also remains unexposed and open to further progression, after just four career starts, and looks sure to appreciate the step up in trip given how he finished off the race last time out.
Camakasi weighted to strike
Camakasi has slipped to a career-low mark and and looks decent value at the odds on offer to cash-in and score an overdue success in the 1m 2f handicap (14.50).
The gelding won a maiden at Dundalk back in 2014 when trained in Ireland by John Feane off an official rating of 74 and went on to finish a solid second in a 14-runner handicap at that venue off 82.
Camakasi also ran well when a 1 3/4 length third to Castle Guest in a rated contest at Leopardstown and a 3/4 length third to Spring Offensive in a class 3 handicap at Musselburgh in August 2015 off a rating of 83.
The five-year-old has since struggled since joining Ali Brewer but put in a better effort last time out at Kempton, when keeping on from off the pace to finish a never nearer 7 1/4 length sixth of 14 to Solveig’s Song.
That was a step back in the right direction and Camakai has since been dropped another 2lb and is now able to race in this weak looking class 5 contest off a rating of just 68.
It gives the son of Camacho major claims from a handicapping perspective on the pick of his back-form, especially if the switch to the Tapeta surface and refitting of the cheekpieces have the desired effect.
