Affaire D’Honneur each-way attractive at Haydock
Affaire D’Honneur looks nicely treated on the pick of his form and decent each-way value at the odds on offer in a typically wide-open renewal of the Fixed Brush Handicap Hurdle at Haydock (14:25).
The five-year-old, who is trained by Harry Whittington, failed to get his head in front in three starts last season but did post some really solid efforts in defeat.
They included a fine fourth of 22 to Agrapart in the 2m Betfair Hurdle at Newbury off a mark of 132, where Affaire D’Honneur stayed on from off the pace in eye-catching fashion to be nearest at the finish and beaten 13 lengths.
The form of that race has worked out really well and the selection backed it up with another good run when fourth of 14 to Flying Angel in the Imperial Cup at Sandown off 133.
Those races are both prestigious handicaps and, although Affaire D’Honneur duly opened his account on seasonal reappearance in a five-runner contest at Fontwell, he made hard work of it and subsequently disappointed at the same venue when a well-beaten fifth of 10.
Well-suited by big fields and strong gallop
However, he has since been dropped 5lb in the weights as a result and is now able to race off 132.
That should enable the gelding to be very competitive on the pick of his form, especially if the step up to 2m 6f and fitting of the cheekpieces for the first time have the desired effect.
Whittington has also been very pleased with Affaire D’Honneur in the build up to this and is convinced that he is a better horse in big fields and a strongly run race which this traditionally is.
My Tent Or Yours odds worth investing in
My Tent Or Yours is a class act and looks a worthy favourite to make a winning return to action in the big 2m hurdle (13:50).
The Nicky Henderson nine-year-old finished a fine second in the 2013 running of the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, and also ran a blinder to finish runner-up to Jezki in the 2014 Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham.
My Tent Or Yours was then on the sidelines for nearly two years after suffering an injury in the Scottish Champion Hurdle, but looked as good as ever when putting in an incredible effort on return to action and finishing a 4 1/2 length runner-up to Annie Power in the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival back in March.
The JP McManus owned gelding backed it up with another solid second to Annie Power in the Grade 1 Aintree Hurdle, over a 2m 4f trip which didn’t suit, and was far from disgraced on his final start of the campaign when third to Vroum Vroum Mag in a Grade 1 at the Punchestown Festival.
This represents a huge drop in class and an official rating of 163 gives My Tent Or Yours 6lb and upwards in hand on his three rivals.
