Great Britain 7-1 to better London gold medal tally

Leading bookmaker Coral make Great Britain 7-1 to pick up more than the 29 gold medals they won in London at the 2016 Olympics in Rio which begins this week. Great Britain collected a total of 65 medals overall at the 2012 Olympics and they are 5-2 with Coral to better that tally in Brazil.

Mo Farah is odds-on at 2-5 to repeat his feat in London by winning gold in the men’s 5,000m and the men’s 10,000m. In the women’s heptathlon, there is very little in the betting between Jessica Ennis-Hill and Katarina Johnson-Thompson who can be backed at 13-8 and 2-1, respectively, while in the men’s 100m, Usain Bolt is 8-15 to come out on top again.

In cycling, Chris Froome is evens with Coral to add to his Tour de France success this year by winning gold in the men’s time trial, Lizzie Armitstead is 9-2 to win the women’s road race, while Jason Kenny can be backed at 7-4 to land the gold medal in the men’s sprint inside the velodrome.

“The betting suggests Great Britain aren’t going to have as much success as they did four years ago in London. They do though have some strong gold medal hopes as Mo Farah is odds-on to complete the men’s 5,000m and 10,000m double once again, there should be a fascinating battle between Jessica Ennis-Hill and Katarina Johnson-Thompson in the women’s heptathlon where there is very little to separate the British pair in the betting, while Usain Bolt is odds-on to remain the fastest man on the planet with gold in the men’s 100m,” said Coral’s John Hill.
