Gowran Park Wednesday Preview

Published:

The Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. Hurry Harriet Stakes is the feature event on Wednesday evening’s Gowran Park card.

Say was thought good enough to contest the Epsom Oaks earlier in the summer. Although well beaten that day, she has since run respectably in Group company and was a good second to Dank at the Curragh last time out.

Along Came Casey could never land a blow behind Scintillula last time but had previously been beaten just a head by Fiesolana at Fairyhouse. The biggest threat could come from John Oxx’s unbeaten filly Sinaniya who makes a belated seasonal debut.

The meeting opens at 5.25 and the absence of Jim Bolger’s Intensified could leave the way clear for Aidan O’Brien’s newcomer Mekong River. He is by Galileo out of Simply Perfect and Ballydoyle have introduced some smart colts in this race in the past, most recently Battle of Marengo.

Aidan O’Brien’s Bluebell drops into handicap company in the 5.55 after some decent efforts in a higher grade. The daughter of Mastercraftsman may have most to fear from the lightly weighted Mahon Falls who wears a visor for the first time.

What Style is another taking a drop in class in the 6.25. The daughter of Teofilo ran in the Irish Guineas before finishing last in a Group 2 at the Curragh last month. The unbeaten Safe Home could be a danger after springing a 25-1 surprise for Ger Lyons on his debut.

Lyons saddles Naas winner Mordanmijobsworth in the 7.25. Opposition includes the game Leopardstown winner Teoirim and the lightly-weighted Castle Guest.

Antiquus ran a fair race at the recent Galway Festival when finishing fifth and that could be good enough to take the apprentice handicap at 7.55. Aidan O’Brien’s A Star Is Born can make up for a moderate effort at Naas by taking the closing maiden at 8.25.

Selections: 5.25 Mekong River (nb), 5.55 Mahon Falls, 6.25 What Style, 6.55 Say (NAP), 7.25 Teoirim, 7.55 Antiquus, 8.25 A Star Is Born
