Odds and preview ahead of fight night
The second instalment of Gennady Golovkin v Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez takes place this weekend in Las Vegas.
After their first bout was controversially scored a draw in September 2017, fans have been clamouring for a rematch to decide the number one middleweight.
Adalaide Byrd’s 118-110 scorecard in Alvarez’ favour was generally deemed to not reflect the battle in the ring, with GGG winning one card and the other being a draw. Fans will be hoping for a more conclusive outcome this time round.

The fall out
It’s been a rocky road to get these two back in the ring together, with a scheduled bout in May postponed when Alvarez tested positive for a banned substance.
It looked like the pair would never thrash out a deal, but Alvarez’ promoter Oscar De La Hoya announced an eleventh hour agreement following tough negotiations in June.
The Golovkin camp have had to play a waiting game, with the bout now billed as somewhat of a ‘grudge match’.
Gennady Golovkin
GGG’s candid and affable nature has made him a hit with the media in recent years. He is yet again the favourite this time round.
The Kazakh has won plenty of new fans over the last twelve months and they’ll feel a win for Golovkin will be justice served.
His power hasn’t diminished, which was shown in his second round knock-out over Vanes Martirosyan in May.
However, another year down the line from the first fight, and at 36-year-old, will this be enough to see off the Mexican?
Canelo Alvarez
Alvarez has stayed bullish in his innocence in the whole failed drug test situation, but in a way this has just kept the furore and anticipation bubbling over.
Questions will be asked of Alvarez given his tumultuous year and a ban that stopped any fight taking place earlier in the year.
He was able to stand up to the brawn of Triple G last year, but will he be able to maintain his high-tempo counter-punching style for 12 rounds this time?
Fight Prediction
Coral traders make Golovkin the 8/13 favourite. Canelo is the 11/8 outsider.
But this is once again primed to be a tightly contested bout with Alvarez at 2/1 to win by Decision or Technical Decision.
Another draw is 20/1. The fight to go the distance with a Golovkin win at 11/5.
Canelo has youth on his side and may come out to prove the doubters wrong.
The 28-year-old counter-puncher is 12/1 to end it between round five and round eight.
