Betting preview and tips for Goodwood day four

The penultimate day at Glorious Goodwood sees the speed demons take centre stage in the 5f King George Qatar Stakes.

Battaash is the overwhelming favourite to land the Group 1 prize. But the Coral News Team has delved deep to uncover an intriguing each-way angle.

And with three further group contests and a couple of difficult looking handicap puzzles on the seven-race card, it’s shaping up to be another exciting afternoon on the West Sussex Downs.

Each-way angle in the King George

It’s difficult to see past super sprinter Battaash in the feature race of the day. So it’s the each-way angle that grabs our attention. And we think it could be worth giving Michael Bell’s filly Main Desire another poke at a big price.

The three-year-old failed to get going in the Commonwealth Cup at Ascot last time out, so a return to 5f makes sense for the daughter of High Chaparral. A kind draw will aid her chances, while her unbeaten record over the trip also gives reason for confidence.

This is a much tougher assignment, but it’s one the Westow Stakes winner might just be able to handle against a field which lacks genuine top-level quality outside of Battaash.

Threading can pull it together

All six contenders in the Bonhams Thoroughbreds Stakes will have realistic ambitions of landing the Group 3 pot. But it’s Threading who is taken to weave through her rivals and do the business for Mark Johnston.

The Exceed And Excel filly failed to get going in the Falmouth Stakes last time out. However, that shouldn’t worry prospective punters. The three-year-old has failed to light up on all three occasions at Newmarket. Away from the Suffolk course, though, she’s won three from four, with a place thrown in for good measure.

A prior victory at Goodwood will also help, and with man-of-the-moment James Doyle on board, she has every chance. Inexperienced colt Regal Reality and the unreliable Threeandfourpence are her main rivals.

Can Sequilla take the step up?

If Andre Fabre has a horse running in the UK, you sit up and take note. The French trainer has a 19% strike rate with three-year-olds on the turf over the last five years and does battle with Sequilla in the penultimate race of the day.

The filly is two from three in France, including a Listed win over the distance last time out, and looks open to further improvement here. That form works out as some of the best in the race, and with Frankie Dettori booked to ride, confidence is high that she’ll put in another strong performance.
