Glorious Goodwood (14.35): Dartmouth to teach rivals a lesson

Dartmouth put in a stunning performance when scoring last time out, and can make light of a rise in the weights to follow-up in the Educate A Child Stakes at Goodwood (14.35).
The Sir Michael Stoute trained colt has improved throughout the season, and after finishing a fine sixth of 17 in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot posted a career-best effort when spread-eagling a field of decent handicappers at the same venue three weeks ago.
After being held-up in the last pair under a confident Ted Durcan, the three-year-old made stealthy headway on the oustide two from home before taking up the running approaching the final furlong and stretching clear to beat Space Age by four lengths off a mark of 83.
Dartmouth won with tons in hand, and it was a performance which suggested he neeed keeping firmly onside.
The handicapper has reacted by putting the son of Dubawi up a further 6lb, but that may well be on the lenient side given the manner of that success.
Dartmouth also remains unexposed and open to further improvement after just six starts, and with top French jockey Olivier Peslier in the saddle can take this before going on to even better things.
Barreesh also has a progressive profile, and looks a big player in the hands of in-form jockey Frankie Dettori.
The Richard Hannon trained colt has won his last two starts, and did well to score in the last of those on his handicap debut over 1m 2f at York when coming from way off the pace to get up close home and prevail by 3/4 of a length.
Judged on the way the son of Giant’s Causeway finished off the race the extra two furlongs in this should suit, but a 7lb rise in the weights looks a bit harsh given the narrow margin of the victory.
Another who looks a big player is the Mark Johnston trained Novancia.
The filly has won two of her four starts, and there was lots to like about the way she dug deep to score by a nose last time out at Newmarket.
A revised mark of 82 looks exploitable given Novancia’s profile, and her handler loves nothing more than to have winners at this meeting.
Coral’s best bet: Dartmouth should deliver in this one.
