Glorious Goodwood (14.00): Boite weighted to go well

Boite looks weighted to go well at a big price in the 2m 5f handicap that opens proceedings on day two of a cracking seven-race card at Glorious Goodwood (14.00).

The gelding had some useful staying form to his name when trained by Peter Chapple-Hyam, most notably when a three lengths third to subsequent St Leger and Gold Cup winner Leading Light in the 2013 running of Group 3 Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot off an official rating of 87.

That is strong form in the context of this contest, and makes Boite look handily weighted off a mark of 88.

Boite has since gone on to show good form over hurdles since joining Warren Greatrex, and shaped really well when returned to the level over 1m 6f at this venue and finishing third to Quest For Moore.

The five-year-old went off too hard from the front, but only weakened late on to be beaten three lengths.

Quest For Moore has since gone on to and the valuable Northumberland Plate at Newcastle, and it was an effort which suggested Boite was ahead of his current mark.

Although Boite failed to back up that last time out in the Ascot Stakes at the Royal meeting, the son of Authorized was ridden far too aggressively by Martin Dwyer and is definitely worth another chance now reunited with Sam Hitchcott who rode him here on his penultimate outing.

There are a whole host of dangers in a wide-open contest, and one which commands the utmost respect is William Of Orange.

The Sir Mark Prescott trained gelding is a typical improver from the yard who posted a cracking effort in defeat at York last time out when runner-up to Eshtiall in a 15-runner handicap over 2m.

After being held-up at the rear, William Of Orange made good headway two from home and stayed on strongly to go down by 3/4 of a length.

The four-year-old was gaining hand over first at the finish, and was arguably given too much to do by jockey Luke Morris.

A 4lb rise in the weights for that run does not look harsh given William Of Orange’s progressive profile, and judged on the way the son of Duke Of Marmalade finished off the contest the extra 5f in this should suit.
