French Open QF tips: Halep, Del Potro and Schwartzman involved

Last eight in Men’s and Women’s Singles

It’s down to the last eight in the Men’s and Women’s Singles at this year’s French Open. And today throws up two quarter-finals in each section.

In the Men’s, Diego Schwartzman will be battling to produce a memorable upset against 10-time winner Rafael Nadal. Elsewhere, there are key ties for the likes of Simona Halep and Juan Martin del Potro.

The Coral News Team are back with four tips on the day’s Roland Garros action…

Set Betting: Juan Martin del Potro 3-0 Marin Cilic @ 5/2

Whilst Rafael Nadal remains the hot favourite for another Roland Garros triumph, Del Potro has been arguably the player of the tournament so far. The Argentine hasn’t dropped a set in the last three rounds – and saw off John Isner with ease last time out.

On the face of it, Cilic looks a potentially tougher test. But the pair’s head-to-head record suggests otherwise. Del Potro has won the last seven meetings, and only dropped a single set in the process. This could be more straightforward than many expect.

Simona Halep to beat Angelique Kerber @ 4/9

World number one Halep reached the final last year, and has her eyes on a first ever Grand Slam title this time around. And after a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Emilie Mertens in the fourth round, the Romanian looks to be in the form of her life.

Kerber has looked solid at Roland Garros so far, but has only faced one player in the world’s top 40 up to now. With Halep also boasting by far the better record on clay, she’s likely to prove too strong for her opponent.

Garbine Muguruza v. Maria Sharapova: Over 2.5 Sets @ 6/5

If there’s one outstanding clash in the Women’s quarter-finals, this is it. Sharapova boasts two French Open titles, while Muguruza won the 2016 edition. In short, it promises to be a cracker.

Each of the last two meetings have finished 2-1 to Sharapova, and a similarly hard-fought contest is likely here. At present it’s difficult to split the pair, but the Coral News Team reckon this match will go the distance.

Games Handicap: Diego Schwartzman +9.5 (v. Rafael Nadal) @ 10/11

Nadal may be the ‘King of Clay’, and 3/10 to win the French Open – but his clash with Schwarzman is unlikely to be all one-way traffic.

The pair’s Australian Open clash earlier this year finished 3-1 in sets to Nadal, while the Spaniard won the last clay court meeting 6-3, 6-4. There’s little doubt Rafa will advance again this time, but the in-form Schwartzman will be no pushover.
