Frankie Dettori Classic wins: All 23 of his UK triumphs
Published:Soul Sister’s sensational Oaks success at Epsom made it 23 Frankie Dettori Classic wins in Britain throughout his amazing career.
This was the Italian’s seventh Oaks to go with four wins each in the 1000 and 2000 Guineas, six St Legers and two Derbys.
Dettori beamed: “I was able to enjoy the screaming of all of the crowd and I couldn’t believe I’d won another Oaks! I was able to enjoy it and I loved it as I knew I’d won.
“Usually, when you win the Oaks they give you an oak tree, the last one I got for Snowfall my dog decided to play with it and ripped it around the garden, so I could do with a new tree!”
With Chaldean having already landed the 2000 Guineas during his final season in the saddle, the 52-year-old joked: “If I stay one more year, I might get close to Lester’s 30.”
Of course, there has been no bigger showman in racing since Dettori came over to England from Italy in the late 1980s and just a few years later he was a household name.
However, he had to wait 15 seasons from his first Derby mount in 1992 before Authorized obliged in 2007, and credits 2015 Epsom hero Golden Horn with giving him the “biggest thrill” of his career.

“Every time it came to the Derby it was a nightmare!” he said of the barren run. “The point of the Derby is it’s only once a year – once it’s gone, it’s gone. At Royal Ascot, you’ve got 35 races, you’ve got the rest of the afternoon, but the Derby only comes once.
“When I won in 2007 I was full of relief. Finally, it was the last piece of the jigsaw.
“Golden Horn was a different thing because I really got to enjoy it; I was older and my kids were older.
“I didn’t have the pressure to try to win it for the first time either, so it was a lot more enjoyable. Probably my biggest thrill in one single race was that race.”
