With pre-season training in full swing, fresh signings bedding in and new managers instilling their unique philosophies, attention turns to the upcoming Premier League season.
Fans have started filling out their fantasy league teams with well known names and wildcards galore. So, here, Coral football experts give you four fab tips on who to select for your side…
Goalkeeper: David De Gea (Manchester United)
When it comes to choosing a goalkeeper, it is hard to look further than De Gea. After arriving at Manchester United in 2011 as a scrawny prospect, the Spaniard has repaid the faith the Old Trafford outfit showed by buying him and has now transformed into one of, if not the, best keeper in world football.
New Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho has a reputation for solidifying defences and racking up clean sheets – and his reign at United should be no different. The Manchester club had the second best defence last season, so expect Mourinho to make it even better.
De Gea has been the club’s Player of the Season for the last three years, and Man Utd would surely have finished even lower than fourth in the league last term had it not been for the former Atletico Madrid man.
Defender: Toby Alderweireld (Tottenham)
The Belgium centre back was a rock for Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs side last term, as they endeavoured to chase down Leicester City. Alderweireld hardly missed a match and was a vital part of the league’s best defence, registering 13 clean sheets.
On top of this, the White Hart Lane defender proved lucrative at the other end of the pitch, netting four goals and assisting the same amount – the solid centre back is 13/2 to finish the season as the top scoring defender.
Midfielder: Henrikh Mkhitaryan (Manchester United)
Armenia international Mkhitaryan scored 23 goals from midfield last term and recorded an incredible 32 assists in all competitions – 20 of which came in the Bundesliga.
Mkhitaryan is an attacking force and, with the supreme talents of Anthony Martial and Zlatan Ibrahimovic surrounding him, is certain to rack up the fantasy points. The new Red Devil is a terrific 12/1 to be the top scoring midfielder this season, but with his sensational combination of scoring and creativity, why not take a 22/1 punt on him becoming the top scoring fantasy league player.
Forward: Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)
Argentina forward Aguero finished last season as the second-highest scorer in the Premier League, with the best minutes to goal ratio, at 99 minutes, in the division.
Aguero is a truly lethal number nine and the only factor fantasy league players need to bare in mind, is his injury record – so be ready to switch him out of your selection regularly. However, when he is fit, he tots up the points and is 3/1 to be the top scoring fantasy league forward.
