Odds and preview ahead of tonight’s match

Over a year after their Europa League campaign began, Wolves are now just three wins away from victory.

Their European adventure began with a second qualifying round victory over North Ireland’s semi-professional side Wanderers, with the first of those ties back in July 2019.

But in Julen Lopetegui’s Sevilla, they face a club with serious Europa League pedigree, having won the competition a record five times, including three consecutive wins in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Who will come out on top tonight?

Match Odds

Wolves are slight underdogs here at 11/4 to win in 90 minutes, with the draw priced at 21/10 and a Sevilla win at 6/5.

Both sides regularly find themselves involved in low-scoring games, with under 2.5 goals and a Sevilla win going at 13/4, with Wolves to win and under 2.5 goals at 13/2.

Raul Jimenez has scored four times so far in the competition and is 9/2 to open the scoring tonight, or 21/10 to score anytime. Fellow forward Diego Jota has been out of form since the break, scoring just once in his last 10 games, but he has six goals already in Europe and is 7/2 to score anytime.

Sevilla’s dangerman is Lucas Ocampos who can be backed at 4/1 to score first, or 15/8 to score anytime. The wide forward is yet to score in the competition, but 14 goals in La Liga this season highlight the threat he carries.

Wolves were tipped for an outside shot at taking a Champions League spot before the Premier League’s resumption in June, but spotty form saw them lose three games in nine, struggling against the teams around them, before finally finishing seventh.

Last week they squeezed through to the Europa League quarter-finals in their match against Olympiakos thanks to a Raul Jimenez penalty, but tonight’s opposition will pose a tougher challenge, as one of La Liga’s post-lockdown form teams.

Sevilla are unbeaten in all 12 of their post-lockdown matches under manager Julen Lopetegui, and deservedly beat Roma in the round of 16 to progress to this point.

Their fourth-placed La Liga finish saw them tied on 70 points with Atletico Madrid, to secure a Champions League spot next season and they remain a real threat in this competition.

Wolves will be relying on talismanic striker Raul Jimenez and the explosive talents of Adama Traore going forward, with Daniel Podence suspended due to picking up three yellow cards in the competition. That suspension could see a recall for Diego Jota..

For Sevilla, Nemanja Gudelj is the only player set to miss out, after testing positive for Covid-19 last month. They may well line up with the same starting eleven as against Roma, with Suso, Youssef En-Nesyri and Lucas Ocampos making up a potent front three,

For Wolves, Europa League success remains their last route to the Champions League. After over a year in the competition, they’ll be desperate to progress tonight, while the one-off tournament structure may suit them. But it goes without saying Sevilla are no pushovers and with their excellent form, they’ll be on the hunt for another Europa League trophy to add to their collection.
